Ruthie's Box
March 23rd, 2009 in The GalleryThis box was an exploration into the use of end grain veneers. The surfaces were approached as a composition. What I ended up with was a random “pattern” that highlights the wood’s annual growth rings. When you open the box, you are met with the sweet aroma and warm color of the cypress interior. This box is simple, yet very beautiful in its detail.
The box is named for my daughter, Ruthie. Two days after she was born I was inspired to make this box for her - I worked on it in between sleepless nights and diaper changes, until it was complete.
