Shaker style hutch, milk-painted

Knobs got three coats of water-based dye, raising the grain. So, for the final finish coat I went back to the lathe (slow speed) and applied oil/varnish with fine steel wool for a perfectly smooth and velvety feel.

Finished this today. Made a similar one as a Christmas present for one of our kids (posted 4/5) and liked it so much I made this one for us. Unlike the other (which, below the counter, had nine drawers and a shelf) this one is deeper, with two drawers and a cupboard. To make the low cupboard easier to live with, instead of shelves it has two trays that slide on Euro-style guides. The first upper shelf is fixed. The other two are adjustable. Poplar is milk-painted Barn Red and finished with two coats of acrylic Clear Coat. Tiger maple counter is dyed and finished with an oil/varnish mixture rubbed on with fine steel wool.

Thanks, and what a coincidence. I'm normally not that into contemporary stuff, but I think the table you posted recently is inspired. I've never seen anything quite like it, but it has a certain grace to it, and, while it's very unusual, doesn't seem to be straining to be different. The various design elements work together in a nice, harmonious way. Would love to seem more of your work.
Best regards,
