I just got back from an all-day video shoot and started to scour the Web for safety content. In case you hadn’t heard, it’s Safety Week on the World Wide Web.
First thing, I saw the video posted above from Matt’s Basement Workshop, describing how we use our five senses (well… maybe just four) to help us avoid injury in the shop.

You can never get too many reminders about how to be more cautious in the shop. Matt Kenney (the talent in the video we were shooting today) was about to rout a slot in a small part on his new, shopmade router table… he was going to use a push stick, but I wondered “Hmnn… is there a better way?” (in the back of my mind was that handy featherboard for the router table that we featured in our eLetter last week) Matt quickly came up with a simple hold-down to hold the workpiece securely to the table… “Actually, this worked great, I’ll have to use this setup all the time in the future,” he said.
