WBIR, the evening news station for West Knoxville, Tenn., last week profiled students and teachers at a Windsor chair making class at the local Woodcraft.

In a television news segment and online article headlined "Man-panionship" in the grain at woodworking class, photojournalist John Martin captured the joy and appreciation that comes with making furniture from lumber the old-fashioned way. My favorite parts are the student confessionals on why they enjoy making furniture. I couldn't agree more.

It's nice to see some good news for a change on the evening news. I'll take back what I said about Katie Couric.
