Fireplace Mantel

I wanted the fireplace mantel in my living room to be very clean and modern-looking, but to include an organic element as well. I found a walnut board with a live edge, which I used as the top piece. The two sides are shop sawn veneer over MDF. I finished with shellac and lacquer.
