Painted Bookcases with Motawi Tiles and Brass Grills
July 13th, 2009 in The GalleryI finished up a pair of painted bookcases. This set was built for a couple who liked a previous pair of bookcases I made. They needed alterations to the design to fit their space. These cases features many molding profiles-such as beaded moldings around the doors and frame work and a layered crown molding. The doors also have a brass grill work. Tiles from Motawi were set into the upper framework. The clients wanted a fair number of traditional features such as the fluted columns and crown molding. They also wanted the designs to be based on the golden ration 1:1.618. I used this ratio in as detailed a way as I could in regards to the space that each case inhabited. The left side was smaller than the right side so certain adjustment to the portion were inevitable.
