Encyclopedia of Woodworking by Alan and Gill Bridgewater.
New Holland Publishers, 2007.
$29.95; 176pp.

Because this book is British, some of the woodworking terms used and power tool brands shown might be unfamiliar, but there’s enough common information included to make it a useful book. The Encyclopedia of Woodworking is “aimed specifically at both the novice and the keen carpenter who want to develop their skills further” and is broken into 4 parts: Wood, Workshop & Tools, Techniques, and Projects. You might first notice the book is from the UK because it includes some woods that are not widely used in the US and some of the common names are a little different. But you get to learn about different woods, so that’s okay. Then you’ll see some of the different tool brands and woodworking terms used, but the photos and drawings make it easy to understand. Finally, the book includes 20 projects (with both metric and imperial measurements) that anyone can build. Some of the projects include a beginner’s coffee table and mirror, and slightly more ambitious pieces such as a corner cabinet and some chairs.

Lucky leepatlife is the winner! His comment was chosen at random.

yohann writes: Hi, I would be interested in owning that book.
As a novice wood worker, I have tried building my wife a microwave hutch (not too happy with the results) and finally I just finished a baby gate for my little girl.
After I finish with this project, I am on to building a small Foyer bench for our home and then will try to deliver a baby high chair for my sister who is in her ninth month.
I do not know how I am going to execute the Bench and the Baby high chair, and would love to get more information on how to go from design to final delivery. I have already bought the wood the for both the projects.
I guess reading about the projects in this book will help me decide on, most importantly, how to go about designing the furniture and then deciding on what joinery to use.
If you think I deserve to have it then I think I would love to own it.
Thanks
