This was an all-hand tools project started in 2006 and completed in 2009.  I used reclaimed walnut boards from old barns in Indiana and Missouri.  The wood was wonderful to work with and had a deep rich natural color.  I learned a number of Chinese joinery techniques in the process, based on the excellent book, "Connoisseurship of Chinese Furniture: Ming and Early Qing Dynasties," by Shixiang Wang.  If you are interested in Asian design, this treatise is worth getting through your local library or else purchasing online.

Jurgen01 writes: This is a really nice interpretation of classical Chinese woodwork -- and I agree with you about Wang's book on the subject. Simple artistry and subtle craftsmanship expresssed in a beautiful object. You have made a wonderful piece that will be treasured and admired for many years to come. Great work!
