Chinese Style Cabinet
September 3rd, 2009 in The GalleryThis was an all-hand tools project started in 2006 and completed in 2009. I used reclaimed walnut boards from old barns in Indiana and Missouri. The wood was wonderful to work with and had a deep rich natural color. I learned a number of Chinese joinery techniques in the process, based on the excellent book, "Connoisseurship of Chinese Furniture: Ming and Early Qing Dynasties," by Shixiang Wang. If you are interested in Asian design, this treatise is worth getting through your local library or else purchasing online.
