I spent some time this week visiting the new exhibit at the Japan Society here, which runs through January 11 called New Bamboo: Contemporary Japanese Masters. In this show, Japanese artisans and architects have explored the possibilities of bamboo as a sculptural material. More than 90 lacquered, steam-bent, woven, extruded, caned and ropy objects are on display in this fascinating show and can give anyone interested in working with bamboo inspiration.
