Bedroom Storage/Display Unit
October 15th, 2009 in The GalleryThe requirements were simple: fill a wall that was over 14' long, with a 12' high ceiling, and hide the TV with something not too overwhelmingly massive, with matching nightstands and headboard. The solution: a multi-piece wall unit with both storage and display space, comprised of intersecting masses and shapes. Curved sides, ebony pulls, and metallic spheres, feet and accent stripes are thematic elements that were carried over into the headboard and nightstands. This installation is a great example of a mixture of the client's needs and taste, my aesthetic, and a high degree of functionality and creativity. Creative use of lighting in the form of recessed pucks, overhead spots, and a backlight for the mirror add a healthy splash of drama.
Materials are makore, maple, ebony, zebrawood, cocobolo, glass, mirror, and aluminum. Overall size is approximately 108" x 172" x 30".
