Woodworking, Doughnuts, and Bacon

You got your bacon in my doughnut! This unique pastery came from Nord's bakery in Lousville, KY. The road is tough sometimes, but it wasn't rough enough this time for me to have a taste.

It's always nice to get a good meal when you're on the road. I'm in Louisville, KY right now shooting photos for an upcoming article with furniture designer and maker Dan Chaffin. He and his business partner, Matt Frederick, have been great hosts and have taken me to some fantastic restaurants. I've eaten cajun, cuban, and down home delicious deli. This morning, though, might have taken the cake. Or dougnut, as it were.
Matt arrived at the shop carrying a large box of pasteries from Nord's, a local bakery. Among the tempting delicacies was something none of us had seen before: A dougnut topped off with maple icing and a piece of bacon. That's right, a piece of bacon. Dan, his wife, and Matt all had a bite or two.
In my younger and more decadent years, I would have gladly eaten it, but not anymore. I did, however, enjoy a huge piece of apple strudel that was write-home-to-mom good. So I don't regret skipping the bacon pastery. My only regret is that I can't take one of them home for Tom Begnal, Fine Woodworking's resident bacon fanatic.
