Re: James Krenov: 1920 - 2009

Try as I might, I couldn't approach his level of mastery at design and execution. But by God, I tried, and I'm still trying.

He inspired me with great love and respect of the craft, of wood, finish, design, writing, and above all, 'attitude'.

A sad day. I'll always remember him with tremendous respect and love.

Re: Switchback Bookcase Wins Our Challenge

To Peter. Your comments on Strother Purdy's piece were highly admirable, and fitting of a champion. However, Strother was not actually eligible to enter the competition.

Taunton Press said: "...we noticed that Purdy is the author of a soon-to-be-published book by (us)..". They should have noticed this immediately, not later. They messed up. This is an unfortunate incident, which no doubt take some of the shine off your victory, and that is regrettable.

You are the winner and I salute you.

Re: Retro

Now that is just gorgeous. It will never age. Superb balance. Just about perfect, actually. I've bookmarked it, and I expect it to always bring a smile to my face. Well done, and thanks for the pleasure of seeing it.

Re: Art Nouveau bookcase

Functional without fuss. Simple yet extremely elegant. Decoration minimal, beautiful, harmonious and full of character. Ecologically fit (no rain forest material). Design meets brief and looks wonderful in that room. Perfectly proportioned. Beautifully built and finished.

A very deep piece, and hands down winner as far as I'm concerned. I'd be immensely proud if that was my own work. Congratulations.
