Free Plan: Frame-and-Panel Bed

A lot of time is spent refining what may seem like the small details of this frame-and-panel bed, but the effort pays off in the handsome inlaid piece with six-sided posts, headboard, and footboard.

Free Plan: Light, Strong Sawhorses

These easy to make sawhorses are light, sturdy, and stack neatly when not in use. A simple scarf joint with a spline is glued and screwed to the legs, and that's all there is to the joinery.

Mike Dunbar will show you how to reproduce an 18th-century original and fine-tune your hand-tool skills at the same time.

Re: Becksvoort honored

Congratulations! Having worked with Becksvoort on a number of occasions I can definitely say he truly is a master craftsman, and the honor is well-deserved. And the state of Maine is one of the most progressive in terms of honoring, promoting, and keeping its craftspeople. Kudos to them as well.

Two facts you might now know about Christian Becksvoort:

1. He has a great design eye, and his portfolio extends well beyond just Shaker reproductions.

2. He is also the author of In Harmony with Wood, an out of print (so get it wherever you can) book that gives a comprehensive look at wood from tree to plank and beyond.
